Quick Tip: What to Wear with Flats

Heels are great and we know our Dots divas love them, but sometimes you just have to wear a ballet flat! Personally, I love flats but sometimes they just don’t seem to go with everything. But being heelless, ballerina flats have a tendency to make ones legs appear shorter, so petite women may want to steer clear, or pair them with a shorter skirt, extending the amount of leg that is shown. So here are some tips on what to wear with a flat.

This spring you’ll find everything from sneakers to evening shoes that are inspired by ballet slippers, and hence could be called ballerina flats. Ballerina flats with satin or embellished uppers can seem especially dressy and elegant, while leather skimmers are a bit more casual and are great for pairing with jeans and shorts. If you’re looking for a fun, sporty look, a casual canvas skimmer is adorable with capris, shorts and short denim skirts.

However, there are a few items that should not be worn with flats, like pants that are too long or with pleated pants with narrow legs. This will make your mid section appear bigger, while making your legs seem shorter.

Flats are a comfortable and great for warm weather! Check out the great selection we have at Dots.

Our Favorite Spring Lip Colors

As we start making the slow transition into spring your wardrobe will start brightening up a little but don’t stop there, add a little color to your lips! This spring corals and nudes are extra glamorous, while girlish shads of fuchsia works great on nearly any skin tone. Adding a swipe of some eye-popping color can do wonders on elevating your look. Here are our three picks for must-have lip color this spring.

From deep magenta to neon shades of pink, fuchsia lips are replacing reds this spring. Even if you don’t have a ton of time to get ready in the morning this color will have you standing out as the ultimate trend setter. One of our favorites: Max Factor Vivid Impact Lipcolor in Ms. Understood, $9.

Coral is also one of those universally flattering colors, it doesn’t stand out as much as fuchsias but I think it ads a little punch to your spring look. Try Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Coral Queen, $10.26.

Also, don’t be scared to go nude! If you are going heavy on the eyes, nude lips look sexy and sophisticated. A glossy nude lips will make you look like you have the perfect pout! It’s also a go to look for Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. Try  Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick in Flawless, available at Sephora.
