Myth Monday: Washing Face with Soap

Last week, we stressed the importance of removing makeup with a good facial cleanser or towelette. However, in the rush of our everyday lives, many women make the mistake of removing their makeup and washing their face with soap!

It’s fine if you use hand or body soap every now and then to quickly wash your face, but it’s definitely not something dermatologists recommend for an everyday cleansing routine. Soap tends to strip the skin of it’s natural oils and leaves skin dry. Dry skin leads to more fine lines and wrinkles! Also, soap leaves a residue on the skin that can lead to other skin problems like acne.

However, there are bar soaps made specifically for the face for those who prefer using soap. The most popular of these facial soaps is the Dove Beauty Bar and the Neutrogena Facial Bar. Otherwise, look for soap with glycerin for added moisture and a low pH level that won’t disturb skin’s normal balance.

Do you prefer to use soap to wash your face?
