Monday Make-Over How-To…

Monday make-over how-to: Locks in Loose Curls!

For loose waves, simply follow these steps before bed:

1. After letting wet hair dry a little, apply product like a gel or mousse loosely throughout damp locks.

2. Part your hair into four or five equal sections and braid them each securing the base with a rubber band.  For tighter curls, take each braid and twirl them into a bun and supporting them with another elastic or clip.

4. Sleep with these braid buns in your hair, so that by morning, your hair will have dried in crimped waves.

5. Remove the elastics from your hair and with a gentle hand, run your fingers loosely to undo each braid.

6. Do not use a comb to your hair – but instead, scrunch your hair with your fingers freeing the waves to appear, and mist generously with your favorite hair spray while tossing your hair.

7. For extra waves, consider a wide barrel curling iron to accentuate pieces throughout your sexy mane and finish the desired look of loose curled locks!

Trend Alert: Tousled Bobs

As the weather gets colder, you would think we would be growing out our locks, but in fact, it’s just the opposite. Women every where are trying out a shorter length this holiday season along with a messy/wavy style. This trend has been thought to have started with non other than the hair goddess herself, Jennifer Anniston. She debuted newly chopped locks earlier this year, creating a buzz in the beauty world.

To achieve this trendy hair style tell your stylist you want a shoulder length bob with long layers through-out. To stye it you can curl it with the widest width curling iron you have, than give it a quick covering with some texturizing spray and run your fingers through it to loosen the curls.

Remember: you don’t want it to look perfect, think Blake Lively on Gossip Girl.

Holiday Hair Trends

Color

When it comes to hair, it’s always nice to mix it up as the seasons change. Brittany Snow went from beachy blonde to a warm auburn shade. We are daring to try this fun and fierce shade this season because it works well on most skin tones. If you want to test the color out first before making a permanent decision, try a semi-permanent dye in a an a light auburn shade. By choosing a semi-permanent you cause less damage to your hair, and the color washes out after 20-30 shampoos. If you want to darken up for the winter, go with a natural look like Lauren Conrad. She chose a chocolate brown color, but kept a few light pieces for a naturally highlighted feel.

Style

Now that we discussed some hot winter colors, lets talk style. Whether you have short, medium or long hair you can create a nice wavy texture. This look is great if your looking to add volume. Use a bigger size curling barrel to create a natural looking big curl. For a festive touch, add a feathered fascinator which you can find at Dots for under $20!!

Quick Tip: Winter Hair Care

Winter Hair Care Tips

  1. Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind. Make sure that it’s not so tight where it will restrict circulation in your scalp.
  2. Use a conditioner daily.
  3. Once you have your hair moist, lock in the moisture by running your hair through cold water; this will also give your hair an extra shine.
  4. Don’t go outside with your hair wet, you risk breakage. Your hair will freeze if it’s cold enough outside and may break.
  5. Limit your use of “hot” items on your hair such as a blow dryers and curling irons.
  6. If you need to use a “hot” item use a leave in conditioner before using the item on your hair.
  7. Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water. Use warm or cool water instead, the heat can dry out and/or damage your hair and skin.
  8. Hair products that have the word, “Replenish” on it is made to moistureize your hair.
  9. Try using a dry shampoo if you need to wash out your hair. One dry shampoo you can use is baby powder, simply sprinkle some onto your hair and use a comb to comb it off.

Quick Tip: Bangs For Your Face Shape

Have you ever wanted to try bangs, but weren’t sure which style was right for you?

We have a few quick tips to help you decide which trendy bang style suits you, determined by the shape of your face.

For a Square Face: Try wispy bangs like Lauren Conrad that helps soften her face. They are easier to hide too if you want to grow them out.

For a Long Face: Long face shapes like Alyssa Milano can pull off the blunt style bang! Blunt bangs look ultra chic with super straight stands.

For a Round Face: Try the side sweep bang, which is a universal style that flatters all face  shapes. Blow-dry them the opposite way that they will lay, giving your hair a lifted look.  Also, by parting off to one side you can create the appearance of a slimmer face. We love Emma Stones’ side sweep look and her mega blonde color!
